Senior Estimator

DS Constructors is seeking an experienced Commercial Construction Senior Estimator to join our dynamic and results-driven team in the Northern Colorado market.

This pivotal role involves preparing accurate project estimates, managing cost controls, and supporting our company's mission to deliver quality construction projects with integrity and precision.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Senior Management in developing the division strategy, vision and business planning process.
  • Coordinate, manage, train supervise the work of subordinate preconstruction members.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with existing and new clients.
  • Lead preparation of proposals for new business and presentations to clients.
  • Understand Design Build as well as hard bid projects / process.
  • Manage architect and engineering team through the design build process.
  • Attend and participate in business meetings, industry events and conferences to promote firm in the markets we serve.
  • Develop and maintain leads, review lead sources, participate and help guide the identification of pursuit targets.
  • Participate in and assist in attracting, recruiting, developing and retaining top caliber talent.
  • Prepare and analyze cost models during the phases of Design Development and/or bidding period.
  • Coordinate and assure that a preliminary construction schedule has been developed for each estimate.
  • Produce progress estimates at design milestones, evaluate material and system costs, review document progress and coordination, build and maintain subcontractor and vendor relationships.
  • Assure that the estimates, including general conditions, are accurate, complete, and reflect the actual requirements of the project.
  • Plan and lead the preconstruction strategy meeting on the approach to the project or estimate.
  • Assure that potential risk factors have been evaluated and reviewed with upper management.
  • Create realistic and detailed schedules for all design, approval, estimating and purchasing activities.
  • Provide clear scopes of work to all bidders and pre-qualify bidders.
  • Act as document reviewer and adviser for constructability and value analysis.
  • Ensure estimates are complete and reflect all that is required to build the project.
  • Provide cost analysis for all active preconstruction assignments and manage the preconstruction department budgets.
  • Organize and lead the transition meeting between the project operations team and the preconstruction team and coordinate the follow-up meetings.

Qualifications

  • Engineering, Construction Management or Architectural degree, or equivalent experience.
  • Field construction experience (5-8 years, including supervisory skills) –not required but preferred.
  • Commitment to client service.
  • Leadership abilityProblem-solving ability.
  • Strong sense of urgency.
  • Computer literacy, experience adaptable to various databases. Knowledge of Excel, Word, Outlook, On Screen Take Off and Bluebeam.
  • Fundamental knowledge of contract law and project accounting.
  • Between 5-7 years' Commercial GC estimating experience and worked on both Public (govt.) and Private projects.
  • Strong technical and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in executing the entire pricing process, from inception/request for proposal to project award.
  • Experience with estimating construction projects, quantitative take offs, bid processes assembling scope of work, and subcontractor scope review.
  • Literate in construction documents and drawings, with knowledge of all phases of construction.
  • Experienced and proficient in all divisions of work, methods, materials, scheduling and cost control.
  • Skills to analyze, plan, prepare, develop, document and finalize all facets included with pricing efforts. (An understanding of local cost markets is required)
  • Strong contract negotiation skills and general knowledge of all construction scopes.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Estimate in compliance with safety standards and specific project requirements.
  • Capacity to prioritize and meet deadlines.
  • Meet time and cost objectives with respect to estimating, bidding and buyout processes.
  • Verifiable work references.
